Dear [Whomever],
[Your Name Here] will
complete the 204-mile Group Health Seattle
to Portland Bicycle Classic (STP) on July
15th and 16th.
I am training to participate in our first Leukemia & Lymphoma
Society's Team in Training race. I will ride in honor of Alexander Barr, a 15
year old leukemia survivor. He was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia
(ALL) on April 14, 1997. He survived his treatments and is doing great. As an
honored teammate he hopes to help find a better and more permanent cure for
leukemia and all cancers. Alexander won't be able to ride with us, but he will
be providing us with the inspiration and encouragement to ride 200+ miles. I can
do it with his help, and your help. I will train for the next 4.5 months with
coaches and team mates for a double century ride while we raise $10,000 to find
a CURE.
This is my contribution to try to help save lives. Alexander
is fortunate in that he has been off treatment for five years and is doing
great. But there are thousands of others who haven't been as fortunate. We want
to do our part in helping Alexander achieve his goal. We will ride, sweat, wake
up early, and spend too many hours on our bikes so that our nieces and nephews,
your children and grandchildren, my co-workers, friends, and families will be
saved because the money we raised funded that one researcher that found that one
cure.
Why should you support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society?
-
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest
voluntary health agency dedicated to funding blood cancer research,
education and patient services.
-
Leukemia is the number one disease killer of children
under the age of 14.
-
It is estimated that leukemia and its related cancers
lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma strike some 106,000 Americans each
year and kill 60,340.
-
The research is working. 25 years ago, only 5% of
children diagnosed with leukemia survived. Today, 85% of children with
leukemia and 76% of those with Hodgkin's disease will live thanks to the
research funded by people involved in fundraising programs like Team In
Training.
-
The Society's sponsored research has been the catalyst
for effective treatments of Hodgkin's disease, lymphomas and other common
kinds of cancers, including breast and lung cancer.
-
The cause of leukemia remains unknown.
Training for my double century ride will be physically hard,
cause aching legs and muscles, but my challenge is nothing compared to the
challenges that Alexander faced everyday while battling for his life. My
time training is nothing compared to the hours Alexander spent receiving his
chemo treatments. My aches and pains are nothing compared to his nausea
and weakness after his stem cell transplant. There is still so much work to be
done. Please make a donation. Your dollar does make a difference!
Thank you very much for your support.
Best regards,
