Dear
Friends and Family,
I still find it hard to believe I’m committed to spending
8-10 hours a day for two days sitting on a little wedge of a seat for almost
200 miles!!! I will be riding the
Seattle to Portland (STP) bike ride in July. I’ve wanted to do this ride for several years but never had
the guts, or maybe the screwed up mentality, to put my words into action. I guess I needed a good enough
reason. Now I have one. Her name is Maureen Martin and she’s my
mom. She has lymphoma for the 2nd
time. Mom beat the first round by
herself, had to get through colon cancer surgery and now she’s on round two of
a different kind of lymphoma. I’m going to do everything I can to help her win
this battle.
I have joined a team of riders that are raising money to
fund research, support lymphoma patients, and educate people about blood
cancers. The Leukemia and Lymphoma
Society (LLS) is dedicated to finding a cure and effective treatments to help
the thousands of victims. What is
so cool about “TEAM in Training” is that 75% of all money goes directly to the
cause, only 25% to administration costs. I have committed to raise $2,500.
I like to think that my contribution will be
that little extra that will be a part of the
discovery of the drug that will help Mom
through her treatment faster and more
comfortably, if not Mom, maybe someone else
You are getting this letter because you either know me or my
mom. I would like to invite you to
help me meet my goal. There are a
couple of ways to make a contribution.
You can write a check made out to LLS and send it to me. Confirmation
will be sent from LLS upon receiving it.
Easier yet, for most people these days, is to donate on-line under my
account using a credit card. I
have my own website!!! The
benefits and donation information are on the back of this letter. Contributing money is a powerful way to
be involved when you can’t commit the time. I hope you can make a generous decision and get your
donation in within a couple of weeks.
I’m trying to get it done early and this will help me track my progress
for future fundraising efforts.
April 4th is the deadline for reaching half of my goal.
I almost backed out after attending the meeting but then I
kept telling myself “Mom doesn’t get to back out”. Knowing that I will have a coach, a training program and a
bunch of other riders that will be my partners helped me go for it. I will ride at least three times a week
and join up with my team on the weekends.
I’M PUMPED, I’M COMMITTED (or maybe should be committed) and I’M
MOTIVATED to ride and ride and ride!! Of course your good wishes and positive vibes as I train and
cross that finish line are graciously accepted too.
Thank you soooo much for your support.
Love,
